obesity

One of the effects of not taking care of your health is becoming obese. It is a complex disorder involving an excessive amount of body fat. It can be caused by many things, the most common one being too much calorie intake and not enough exercise. It can also be caused by things like lifestyle choices, medication and genetics. Obesity can seriously affect someone's lifestyle and increase risk of getting things like heart disease and becoming diabetic.

Causes of Obesity

As previously mentioned, there are a few causes for obesity. These include calorie intake, lifestyle choices, use of certain medications, and genetics. Calorie intake can and will only cause obesity when the amount of calorie intake is much bigger than calories burned. This would cause all those excess calories to become into fat. If this continues, the fat will build up and it will cause obesity. Lifestyle choices are also a factor that can affect obesity. This would have to be the simple everyday question 'What should I eat?'. Different answers have different results. Fatty and oily foods will result in higher calorie intake even in small portions. The healthier choice would be to have a balanced diet with enough of every food group. Certain medications could also cause obesity. Some drugs can cause people to have a bigger appetite, causing them to eat more. Occasionally, it can cause obesity if such drug is prescribed to a state where it makes the consumer eat much more than usual. Obesity is not always developed through growth, sometimes it's just genetic. It is more likely for someone with a family history of obesity to become obese than a person with no family history of obesity.

Obesity in Malaysia and the world

In my home country, Malaysia, obesity is a big problem. The main cause of it all is the culture and cuisine here and the fact that people are used to it. The cuisine in this country involves a lot of fatty and oily foods. The cultural dishes use food preparations that aren't healthy when eaten often. Not only is there a problem that these foods exist, but another problem is that they are really popular and not very expensive. People enjoy eating such foods and are used to it. Malaysia is a developing country, meaning that not everyone can afford to have a balanced diet and this is one of the main reasons that obesity is such a big problem in this country.

Obesity is also a problem all over the world. This isn't good because it means that many people everywhere aren't leading healthy lives. Obesity is commonly found in those in the lower economic class. This is because eating healthily comes with a cost, in this case, literally. Healthy foods are expensive so not everyone can buy them and end up going for less healthy options. This is not a choice for these people, they have to do it. Although they are forced to eat unhealthy foods, they can still be healthy with regular exercise and making sure not to eat too much in general.

Exercising with Obesity

I have conducted an experimental activity to see what it is like to be obese. Simple exercise routines were designed and people were asked to perform them. Some of these people were assigned to wear backpacks with significant mass on their fronts to feel the effect of extra weight. Only some people were assigned to wear these in order to analyse the difference in difficulties had between the two groups. The people with backpacks seemed to have much more difficulty that those without. Even the simplest exercises were extremely difficult.
